The Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper Review - Double Layers Of Comfort & Support
Want a memory foam topper to relieve back pain but not sure how soft or firm to go? The Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper may be the answer as you get two levels of comfort and support for the price of one.
Memory foam mattress toppers can be great for relieving aches and pains in your body as you sleep.
They do this by adding a level of cushioning and comfort to your bed that can take the pressure and strain off you during the night.
So much so that they can be enough to give an old and firm mattress a new lease of life without needing to replace it.
Which not only saves you money but also saves you from a lot of pain and sleepless nights as well.
But to be effective you need to make sure you choose the right one.
Because if you get a topper that is too soft you might sink in too far.
Which can throw your spine out of alignment and increase the stress and strain on your lower back, neck and shoulders.
And if you get one that is too firm it can be uncomfortable to sleep on.
Which puts extra pressure on your pressure points and leaves you in just as much pain as when you started!
So finding the right memory foam mattress topper can be a difficult conundrum to solve.
However Snuggle-Pedic have come up with what could be a good solution.
As their mattress topper contains two different layers of memory foam with different levels of density.
This means you can sleep on one side if you want a softer and more comfortable feel, but if you flip it over you get a firmer and more supportive feel.
So theoretically it should give you the best of both worlds and that makes it a great topper for people with back pain to try.
The Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper At A Glance
How Is It Made Up?
The Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper is a 2" thick topper made from two 1" layers of high quality visco-elastic memory foam.
One layer has a density of 4 lbs/cubic ft which gives it a plush feel making it comfortable but not too soft.
While the other layer has a density of 5 lbs/cubic ft which gives it a medium feel making it firmer and more supportive.
So the good thing with this topper is you can choose which side suits you best and change the feel of it by simply flipping it over.
And the memory foam used in the Snuggle-Pedic topper is safe too, being CertiPUR-US certified.
Meaning it's made without using harmful chemicals and is low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
Which is great for your health, the environment, and the indoor air quality of your bedroom.
How Is It Good For Your Back?
Memory foam is known more for it's comfort than for the level of support it offers.
And as such it can never match the support you get from latex mattress toppers.
However this topper from Snuggle-Pedic remains a pretty good choice for your back, as the density of both sides falls within a good range for people with back pain.
Because ideally you need to get a topper with a medium density (between 3-5lb/cubic ft) to give your back the best chance of staying supported and pain-free.
This is the sweet spot for sleeping on a foam that can support the natural curve of your spine.
So the 4 lbs and 5 lbs density of the foams used in this topper mean you can't lose whichever side you decide to sleep on.
But they will both help get rid of back pain in different ways.
Firstly the softer side will be more cushioning and forgiving on your back, which will help to relieve the pressure and strain on your aching muscles and joints.
This side is especially good for side sleepers as it doesn't put pressure on your hips and shoulders as you sleep.
While the firmer side will give you twice the level of support as the softer side and more of a medium feel.
Which makes it a great choice for stomach and back sleepers.
And this will help to keep your spine aligned and help you to maintain a healthy sleeping posture as you sleep.
Also the fact this topper is only 2" thick means you won't sink too far into it.
So it gets the thumbs up from me as a great choice for people that suffer from back pain.
As it will give you much better support than many other memory foam mattress toppers.
Is It Comfortable Too?
While a decent level of support in a mattress topper is very important, so is being able to sleep comfortably on it.
And being in the medium-density range, the Snuggle-Pedic topper is not as soft as what you may be used to with regular memory foam.
So if you're looking for the squishy, sinking feel of lower density memory foam then this might not be the one for you.
But having said that it's still extremely comfortable to sleep on.
And the fact that it isn't too soft means your spine remains in alignment, which results in less pressure being put on your body during the night.
Which can't be a bad thing.
And the most comfortable side to sleep on is obviously the softer side.
As the memory foam will mold to your body, giving you a relaxed and weightless feeling as you lie on it.
This provides great pressure relief and will help you to relax and drift off into a deeper and more restorative sleep.
And having the firmer layer of memory foam as a base means you won't sink in too far.
So there is less chance of feeling stuck with this topper.
Also the firmer qualities and the 2" thickness means it's also easier to move around in during the night.
However, the cushioning of the foam should mean you feel more comfortable in one position, so hopefully you'll experience less tossing and turning during the night anyway.
And while the Snuggle-Pedic topper doesn't have any specific design to make it more breathable such as ventilated holes or gel-infusion.
It's still reported by users as being cool enough to sleep on, which is a big concern with memory foam.
However, I would recommend you buy a breathable cover to assist with keeping it cool.
Does It Come In Different Sizes?
The Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper comes in a full range of sizes, so you can buy one to fit your current bed set-up.
These sizes range from a twin (38" x 75") right up to a California king (72" x 84").
However, you can't choose the thickness of it as this topper only comes as a 2" version.
Which is a slight annoyance as most toppers range from 1" - 4" and each size has a slightly different feel and effect.
But for the Snuggle-Pedic topper I don't think it's such a problem.
As the two 1" layers of memory foam work really well together and cover most of the bases, meaning this topper will suit most people fine.
Free Trial & Warranty
90-day Sleep Trial
You get a 90-day sleep trial with the Snuggle-Pedic topper.
This means that if you don't like it within this period you can return it for a full refund, which is pretty cool.
However, what makes it less cool is that you are responsible for the return shipping costs.
And this can come to around $65!
So while it's good to have this option to return it, it's hardly a perfect offer.
10-year Limited Warranty
Higher density memory foam is more durable and long-lasting than most types of memory foam.
So you should get plenty of years of service out of this one.
And the makers of the Snuggle-Pedic mattress topper are so confident in the quality and durability of their topper that they offer a 10-year limited warranty.
Which is a great length of time for a memory foam topper.
So if there is a sag of more than 1/2" in the memory foam during this time they will replace it for you.
However, this warranty doesn't cover things like general wear and tear, so you need to look after it as best you can too.
>> The Back On Site Verdict <<
For a memory foam mattress topper I think the design of the Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper is really clever and unique.
And the double layers of different density memory foam make it a great choice for people with back pain.
As you can choose between one side that will offer you more comfort and pressure relief.
Or the other that will offer you firmer support.
And you can easily change this up over time depending on how your back is feeling at that precise moment.
So while it's not as supportive as a latex mattress topper, it's still much better than most memory foam toppers in that respect.
And it remains really comfortable to sleep on too, despite not being as soft as other memory foams.
So if you want the best of both worlds and the chance to tailor your own sleeping experience, I'd highly recommend giving the Snuggle-Pedic Mattress Topper a try.
